BHAAAS Board Initiative: Application of Artificial Intelligence Across All Areas of Activity

At a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming science, medicine, the economy, culture, and society as a whole, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) has decided to take a proactive and long-term approach. The BHAAAS Board of Directors has adopted a decision to launch an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at developing a strategy for integrating artificial intelligence across all disciplines and areas of activity within the Academy.

Dr. Azra Sadiković from Travnik Bridges Knowledge Between the U.S. and Bosnia and Herzegovina Through Her Academic Engagement

As part of the program “Transfer of Knowledge from Experts in the Diaspora to Bosnia and Herzegovina,” implemented by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, Dr. Azra Sadiković led a team of physicians from the United States during their stay in Sarajevo. Born in Travnik, Dr. Sadiković is the current Vice President of BHAAAS (the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences) and one of the leading experts in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

BHAAAS and #BrainDate: Short stories that make a big difference

Participants in the #BrainDate series included BHAAAS members Naida Ademović, Jelena Arnautović, Ajla Akšamija, and Almir Karabegović, who spoke about their professional journeys, motivations, challenges, and the ways in which science and research shape their careers as well as their everyday lives.

Gordan Srkalović, former president of BHAAAS, winner of the prestigious international award Castleman Warrior – Researcher of the Year

Gordan Srkalović, M.D., Ph.D., specialist in oncology and blood diseases, former president of BHAAAS and current member of the Advisory Council of BHAAAS, and member of ANUBiH, is the recipient of the prestigious international award Castleman Warrior – Researcher of the Year, awarded by the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network. This award is given to scientists who have made an outstanding contribution to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of Castleman's disease - a rare and complex disorder of the immune system.

BHAAAS Days are a platform for networking, unforgettable encounters, and the exchange of ideas between local and international experts from various fields of science and art.

After 16 successful conferences, BHAAAS proudly continues building bridges between the homeland and the world.

Dr. Mahira Tanović Appointed President of the National Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Mahira Tanović, MD, FACS, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than twenty years of professional experience in New York. She is a member and former President of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) and has been appointed President of the National Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a professional organization operating at the national level.

Dr. Sanda Vujnić: Why early reaction in sepsis is crucial

Our member, Dr. Sanda Vujnić, prepared an article on the occasion of September 13, World Sepsis Day, with the aim of raising public awareness about this serious and often overlooked health threat. BHAAAS members and the Knowledge for Health platform actively follow current topics, strive to be available to the media and the public, and contribute with their expertise to improving citizens’ awareness. BHAAAS Member Prof. Svjetlana Bukvich Premieres New Work with Carolyn Dorfman Dance and Singer Davor Ebner

Carolyn Dorfman Dance presents Prologue: A Dance of Hope - The Story of Max Heller, a powerful fusion of dance, music, and theater. Featuring electroacoustic compositions by Sarajevo-born composer Svjetlana Bukvich and Bosnian singer Davor Ebner, this project is a cultural bridge between BiH and its US diaspora. Premiering in January 2025, it honors Heller’s legacy as a Holocaust survivor, immigrant, and trailblazing mayor who fought segregation in Greenville, South Carolina.

A member of BHAAAS, Namik Hrle from Banja Luka, Vice President of Development in IBM's Software Department and Director of the Development Laboratory in Germany, holder of 77 patents, will be one of the speakers at the 4th Future Leaders Summit (FLS), which will take place on December 13 and 14 in Sarajevo.

Last week, Cairo hosted the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), one of the most significant global events focused on the challenges of urban development. Radiology diagnostics specialist, Dr. Zulejha Merhemić, a long-time member of BHAAAS, has been honored as a Fellow of the European Society of Neuroradiology. Dr. sc. Merhemić, the first person from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to achieve this prestigious level of membership, has been actively contributing to the development and promotion of the medical field for over 20 years. In addition to her work in BiH, she has made a significant impact as a visiting professor at foreign universities, sharing her extensive knowledge and experience with students and colleagues.

Admir Mašić, member of BHAAAS, became a full professor at the famous MIT in Boston

Admir Mašić, a chemist and scientist originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been promoted to the position of full professor at the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America. Admir is a member of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences - BHAAAS and the International Academy of Sciences and Arts in BiH - IANUBIH, and he is the winner of this year's WITec Paper award.
