Message from the BHAAAS President

Dear friends and members of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences,

Welcome to the 13th Days of BHAAAS in Bosnia and Herzegovina

We have worked tirelessly for a year to bring you this impressive conference – the largest scientific event in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina – and the time has finally arrived. All the hard work is about to pay off as we finally have the privilege to host this extraordinary gathering of hundreds of world-class experts here in Sarajevo.

Here are just some of the numbers: 16 members of the Organizing Committee coordinated with over 70 symposia chairs to put on 32 symposia in medical, technical, natural, and social sciences, sustainability, and humanities and the arts. Over 350 presentations are taking place at 4 locations over 4 days, delivered by experts from 26 countries. We are running 16 special events, workshops, and round table discussions, many of them of general interest and open to the public. We also have a special program devoted to students, as well as 4 interdisciplinary symposia and accompanying events dedicated to sustainability, the main theme of the conference.

Rounding out the scientific program are several cultural events, including exhibits, book promotions, and a grand opening ceremony at Sarajevo’s City Hall.

This conference was only possible because of the generosity and commitment of many people, most of all the Organizing Committee and the network of symposia chairs, editors, and reviewers who donated their time and expertise to BHAAAS and its Days. Of course, none of this would ultimately come to fruition without the financial support of our partner organizations and sponsors. We are deeply grateful that you have recognized the value and the transformative power of the work BHAAAS does.

We hope you will enjoy these four days of science and arts ahead of us. We also hope you will share your knowledge, learn something new, network, and make new friends. By doing this, we can demonstrate what true progress and real innovation looks like. Together, we can send the message that a future based on knowledge and exchange of ideas is the only way forward.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

BHAAAS-2022

History of BHAAAS and its Days in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2007, is a voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental, non-partisan, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural organization whose purposes are educational, scientific, and charitable. Its members are gathered under the mission of advancement and development of arts and sciences among the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Diaspora in the United States and Canada. BHAAAS also aims to provide connections between Bosnian-Herzegovinian scientists, artists, and professionals in North America and build bridges of cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the spirit of intellectual diversity, free exchange of ideas, and the belief that knowledge is shareable wealth. Within this framework, BHAAAS has for over a decade organized a conference titled Days of BHAAAS, held in a different location in Bosnia and Herzegovina each year.

BHAAAS’ main goal is connecting experts and professionals of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Diaspora with their counterparts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries. BHAAAS has been dedicated to bringing top experts of Bosnian-Herzegovinian origin who work at prestigious institutions in the U.S., Canada, and elsewhere, and providing them with the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with colleagues and students in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Days of BHAAAS has over the years grown into one of the largest scientific conferences in the Balkans, with hundreds of participants attending lectures in dozens of parallel sessions. We hope to set a new record this year, both in the number of presenters and participants, and hope that you will be able to join us in either capacity.
