BHAAAS is a non-profit organization and it has the general structure of similar organizations, as follows:

All members of the organization can nominate and vote to elect the Board of Directors.

The vote for the B/D is usually held at the Annual meeting of the organization.

The B/D is the governing body of the organization. All matters related to the organization must be approved by the majority of votes of the B/D. Per BHAAAS Bylaws (which is BHAAAS’ governing document), BHAAAS B/D can consist of up to 16 individuals.

The B/D meets approximately every two months or more often, as decided by the President and depending on the level of activities. Except for the Annual Meeting, meetings of the B/D are held virtually.

The members of the B/D serve for 3 years and can be re-elected for an additional 3-year-term. The members of the B/D who are on the Presidential track (meaning that they have been elected as President Elect or are in line for this position) serve as long as they become President, and then one more year as Immediate Past President.

The Executive Committee, consisting of BHAAAS officers – President, Immediate Past President, President Elect and Secretary/Treasurer – is the executive body of the organization. It meets on an as-needed basis and decides all immediate matters. The Executive Committee reports all its activities, and seeks approval of the B/D.

The Advisory Council consists of Past Presidents. It purports to represent the institutional knowledge of the organization. It meets at the request of the Executive Committee, the B/D or BHAAAS Members on an as-needed basis.

The B/D has various Committees (Membership, Ethics, Finance, Legal) and Sections (Medicine and Health; Technical and Natural Sciences; Social Sciences; Humanities and the Arts). Section Chairs serve for 3 years and may be re-elected to serve one additional term. It is recommended that Section Chairs serve on the B/D.

BHAAAS is a voluntary organization and all of its members and officers serve the organization without pay.

BHAAAS has paid staff in Sarajevo – Project manager, Technical Secretary / Representative in BiH and Webmaster.

BHAAAS Board also engages various professional organizations for advertising, financial and other matters.
